Family Letter 2009

Dear Friends, What can I say? Economically, 2008 was difficult. The good news is we are still in business. We did not lay off anyone, and we continue to make our cookies by hand. We have reduced our production because we don’t know what to expect this holiday season. We hope we have underestimated the economy and that we will be begging our employees to work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. Never would a company be so happy to pay overtime! Our employees have been patient, understanding, and loyal. They have worked with us to make the...

Family Letter 2008

Dear Friends, I honestly don’t know how time can pass so quickly. Travis and I (at age 76) continue to enjoy good health which is a blessing. My flower and vegetable gardens are flourishing. This year granddaughter Madison invited 22 of her friends and their parents to my house for her final high school prom photo opportunity that took place in my gardens. Our neighbor’s children and my grandchildren were the servers of assorted canapés and crudités. They were so cute (see photo). Granddaughter Madison will be attending High Point University in the fall. Travis is excited because he graduated...

Family Letter 2007

Dear Friends, Well it’s been another exciting year for the Mrs. Hanes Moravian cookie clan. My husband Travis and I turned 75 years old. We continue to enjoy good heath and we stay very busy. I love to work in my garden and Travis enjoys helping me. However he is getting a little weary of my recent fascination for BIG ceramic pots. “Alright now Evva, decide where you want this thing because it is not going to EVER move again!” Our weekly family dinners with our friends (at least 23 at a time) continue to fill me with warmth and...

Family Letter 2006

Dear Friends, I hope you have had a happy and healthy year. Good health is such a wonderful blessing. Travis and I have been very fortunate in that respect. We are 74 years young and stay very active. We work in our flower garden, grow all our vegetables, run the senior citizen exercise classes at our church, and I cook once or twice a week for my family and friends. There are always at least 24 people at my table. (See photo.) I also finished (finally) my second cookbook. It is called “Supper’s At Six-Second Seating”. It will be available...

Family Letter 2005

Dear Friends, Greetings from my family and all the folks at Mrs. Hanes’ Moravian Cookies. What a year! Once again, we have been blessed by some national publicity. In November 2004, Al Roker of “Roker on the Road” featured our bakery. It was quite thrilling! We consider ourselves so fortunate that our little bakery in the middle of nowhere (that’s actually part of the directions to our bakery) continually receives the recognition of programs like the Food TV Network. However, in all honesty, I must humbly but proudly admit our cookies do make us a rather unique company. We may...
